Barbara Vance
A Life Well Lived and Loved

Barbara Vance lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, one marked by her boundless energy, deep connections, and unwavering commitment to her family and community. She had a knack for staying busy, effortlessly balancing a life filled with volunteering, gardening, hobbies, and social groups. Whether organizing events or lending her wisdom to committees, Barbara’s practical nature and dependable spirit made her a cornerstone of every organization she joined.
Her resilience and fearless attitude were hallmarks of her character. Barbara embraced challenges with a calm determination and an open mind. She approached life with a blend of humor and grace—qualities no doubt sharpened by years of playful teasing and tall tales from her husband. Together, they created a family culture rich with laughter, adventure, and resourcefulness.
Barbara’s role as a mother and homemaker was nothing short of extraordinary. She showed her children that women could truly do it all. Managing a home, finances, activities, and even ambitious road trips, she did it all with precision and love. Those family camping trips remain legendary—lessons learned from them, like the importance of packing aluminum foil, rope, salt, and a can opener, became lifelong touchstones for her children.
Her creativity was another defining aspect of her life. Barbara had a talent for crafts and delighted in tackling the popular projects of her day. Her creations were not just hobbies but gifts of love, pieces of her that friends and family cherish to this day. For anyone lucky enough to have one of her handmade treasures, they serve as a tangible reminder of her artistic spirit.
After losing her husband in 1997, Barbara showed remarkable independence and determination. She continued to live in Forest Falls, their shared home, choosing to embrace the memories rather than shy away from them. With a touch of practicality—adding forced air heating to replace the warmth her husband once provided—she remained there as long as possible, surrounded by the mountains she loved.
When the time came for her to transition to a retirement home in Yucaipa, she carried with her a lifetime of memories, a legacy of love, and the admiration of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Barbara Vance was more than a mother, a friend, or a community member—she was a role model and a reminder that life, when lived fully and authentically, leaves a mark that endures.
